Book Requirements

As of June 2, 2008, the Stark County Junior Fair Poultry Committee decided that it will no longer be mandatory to purchase a new project book each year for poultry projects. Below is a description of what we expect for each project from each member. Please take the time to read this document so you know what will be expected of you to complete to meet your book requirement for your project(s). Each member will be required to complete a one page report for each poultry project that you bring to the fair. The statement “it went well” does not consist of a report. We want to know what you learned, what you would like to change for next year, and/or what you would have done different, etc. These reports to us are more important than the books because we will be able to evaluate how much you truly learned with the project. We also expect you to keep records for your project. Since after the first year your records will be filled in, it will be up to you on how you want to keep records include them in your book on a separate sheet of paper. You may use Microsoft Excel, Word, or you may even keep your records by using good old fashioned paper and pencil. We want them to be complete and accurate, but it’s up to you on how you want to complete them after the first year. Please see below for further explanations on what is expect for all projects and all years.

If we discover that there is a new or updated version of a poultry book, we highly encourage you to purchase the new book because information from those books may be used on skill-a-thons and the poultry judge may ask you question about information from these new or update books.

You will need to bring your completed book(s), records, and one page summary per project to Interview Judging. Please see the Skill-A-Thon Page for more information about Interview Judging.

We hope that this decision will help everyone out and create a positive learning environment for all poultry project members. Thank you for your participation in the Stark County Junior Fair and in the Poultry Program. If you have any questions at all about this or anything else relating to poultry, please contact one of the members on the poultry committee and we will be glad to assist you. We are willing to do what we can do to make this a great learning experience for all.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the fair!
