The Ohio State University Department of Animal Sciences and 4-H Youth Development are offering a Food Animal Products Academy (FAPA) for 4-H members, who are interested in animal agriculture and the products they produce. This academy will be held June 29-July 1, 2010, on the Columbus campus of The Ohio State University. Designed to introduce participants to food animal product development and careers in food animal industries, the Food Animal Products Academy will provide youth hands-on learning activities about animal agriculture through the food animal industry; product development, marketing and distribution; food preparation; and more. Participants will watch demonstrations, prepare meals, and tour businesses to learn about the food animal industry.
4-H members ages 14 years and older at the time of FAPA who have been actively involved in projects taken for food production are encouraged to apply. Examples of food animal projects include beef, sheep, swine, goats, dairy, and poultry.
Youth must pay a $100.00 participation fee. Meals, dormitory housing, and resource materials are paid for through an Ohio 4-H Foundation Grant.
The application deadline is May 14. Space is limited to 50 participants, who will be notified of their acceptance by May 21. The $100.00 participation fee will be due no later than June 4 and must be paid in full at that time.
