The Stark County 4-H Fashion Leadership Board is the small group of outstanding 4-H teen clothing members selected from across Stark County to a) expand their knowledge of clothing, textiles, poise, public speaking, and presentation of a garment, b) assist in conducting the Stark County Fair 4-H Fashion Revue, 4-H clothing workshop sessions, and other events planned by the 4-H clothing committee, c) promote Stark County 4-H clothing projects and programs and d) experience leadership and career exploration opportunities.

The Stark County 4-H Fashion Leadership Board meets in-person a minimum of four times during the year, with activities and events planned throughout.

Nomination Process: Any 4-H member who has – a) completed a 4-H clothing project in the past and b) is registered for a 4-H clothing project for current year is eligible. A minimum age of 12 years, as of January 1 of the project year is required.

Selections will be made through reviews of application materials and interviews.  Selection will be based on the nominees’ potential for success in completing the roles and responsibilities outlined above, as evidenced by:

  • experience and accomplishments in 4-H clothing projects
  • past leadership and service related to clothing
  • the application/nomination materials,
  • performance in the selection interviews, if needed.

The purpose of this competition is to promote sheep and wool. Also the objectives of this class is to present our sheep in a most attractive manner and give spectators opportunity to see the best of the sheep industry.

Entries will be open to anyone ages 4 to adult and open to any county. Participants will be responsible for getting sheep to be shown, either owned or borrowed from sheep exhibited at the fair. Sheep must be yearling ewes, ewe lambs or whethers, fitted and groomed in an attractive manner, and trained to show at halter. NO RAMS ALLOWED!!

Leadline placing is based on garment, handling of sheep, poise and appearance of both sheep and participant, and if outfit is age appropriate.

RULES
1. Each participant must wear a garment, self made or purchased, of at least 60% wool. Extra points awarded if outfit is handmade.
2. The participants garment must be knitted, crocheted, sewn, woven, or felted.
3. Coordinated accessories may be added to adorn the sheep.
4. Participants printed number must be worn in the competition.
5. Commentaries must be typed or printed neatly on entry forms.
6. Participants are to be ringside and lined up when their class is announced. Participants will remain in line while wating to enter the ring.
7. Participants are judged the entire time they are in the ring. Neither the participant nor the judges may touch the animal in the ring.
8. There will be an entry fee of $5.00 for each entry.
9. Forms will be available by contacting one of the chairpersons and entry fee needs to be sent back to chairperson with form and commentary no later than August 15 2009. Commentary no longer than one page.
10. Prizes will be given in each age group for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

16th Annual Stark County 4-H Advisory Committee Swiss Steak Dinner

Plans are underway for the 16th Annual 4-H Advisory Committee Swiss Steak fundraiser dinner.  The dinner will be held on Saturday, April 24th from 4:30-7:00 p.m. at the Nimishillen Grange, Easton Street, Louisville.

Help is needed from all clubs with the following:

  1. Advance ticket sales, tickets are now available. Contact Carol or Nancy to get tickets to sell! Return money, unsold tickets and number of tickets sold by Wednesday, April 21.
  2. Advertising by placing posters in various locations to help advertise the dinner.
  3. Raffle donation/ideas:  gift certificates; theme baskets, any store donated items or homemade items.  Everyone loves the raffle!
  4. To help brown steak 8:00 a.m., April 24.
  5. Set tables.
  6. Pie and cake donations – to be delivered to the grange between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
  7. Workers for the dinner: to serve dinners, dishwashers and kitchen help. Two shifts are available 4:15 to 6:00 p.m. and 5:45 to 7:30 p.m.
  8. Clean-up 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Jenna McNeil & NAAF Fundraiser

JennaJenna McNeil, a Beech Creek 4-H Member, has been diagnosed with Alopecia Areata. You can help by selling wrist bands (bracelets) in her honor. If you are interested in helping to sell bracelets, please call 330-823-6830. We would also be available to visit your club meeting to present a short video about Alopecia Areata. It could be a great health report!

The Beech Creek 4-H Club will be hosting a square dance at the Stark County Fairgrounds on September 25. All proceeds will go to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF). For more details about Jenna and Alopecia Areata please read the attached flyer.
